There are so many benefits for your baby when you wear them wrapped against your body. Newborn babies are more content when they are positioned snugly tummy-to-tummy and chest-to-chest because the motions and rhythms are similar from their time in the womb. Studies show that babies worn in slings cry less and as a result they learn more and become smarter. It also helps promote the baby’s physical development, and is healthy exercise for the wearer as well. A sling can be worn by anyone, making it a great bonding tool for dads, grandparents, and babysitters. When you’re wearing your baby, this also means that you have two free hands. So not only is the baby happy while nestled against your body, but you can attend to older children, do housework, and anything else that requires both hands. Children can easily be worn in a sling until they are 40lbs. Sometimes when a toddler is getting tired or overwhelmed it is nice to have the option to just put them on your back.
Wearing your baby can be tricky at first, and it’s always nice to get some personal help and assistance to make sure that your sling is being used properly and that your baby is safe and secure. Sweetheart Diapers & More offers frequent babywearing classes that are taught by a babywearing expert Diane Pepin of Mother’s Helper. The classes are free to attend and babies are always welcome. Here’s a photo from one of our past babywearing classes. This adorable toddler is in a BabyHawk MeiTai. Cute!!
Here’s a self-photo of myself with my 3-year old in an ERGObaby carrier, out for an autumn walk! We loved having our heads so close because she could point to flowers and ducks and we could chat much better than if she was walking or in a stroller. And I got some great exercise, she’s 36 lbs! This carrier is AMAZING for carrying a heavier child, it is ergonomically designed to distribute the weight so well that I didn’t feel ANY strain.

Great post Marg!
“wearing” your baby seems like a good way to keep the baby happy while getting on with other things that you need to do.
This is soo cute! i have seen these baby carriers for kids too. They get to wear a baby sling just like mommy. They are super cute. I’m not sure who sells them though.
