Baby Cafe

Baby Cafe is a new series of events that we recently started hosting at Sweetheart Diapers & More. Baby Cafe is a very informal meeting that is held approximately once every 2 weeks and is a chance for moms to get together and chat about topics related to parenting and babies.

We have a different guest host who leads the discussion for each Baby Cafe. The host might be an expert in the topic, or it can be someone who just wants to bring the cookies! We also serve tea and hot chocolate while the babies play together in the middle of the circle.

It is a lot of fun and a great way to meet other moms who have similar values. So far we’ve had Baby Cafe’s on: how to breastfeed baby in a sling, elimination communication, and babywearing.

At the last Baby Cafe which was about babywearing, our local babywearing specialist Diane Pepin of Mother’s Helper hosted and showed us tips and tricks on how to use our slings and wraps. In this photo she was showing us how to put a baby on your back, using my then 7-week-old son Cole to demonstrate!

The next Baby Cafe, which is  this upcoming Friday, December 23 from 11:00am-12:00pm, is going to be about Baby Food. Our very own Tina is going to host, and we will talk about how and when to introduce new foods and how to make baby food yourself. Tina made her own baby cereal from scratch for her baby and she’s going to teach us how, I can’t wait!

Baby Cafe’s are very much about the wisdom of the group. We can learn so much when we all just share our experiences and ideas.

A new element to Baby Cafe which will start this week is sales on products related to the topic. So this Friday, everyone who comes to Baby Cafe will get sale discounts on Baby Cubes and Made From Corn baby dishes!

A day worth celebrating

Happy March 17!

Today is indeed a day worth celebrating, and here are 3 good reasons why:

1) here in Windsor, Ontario, the temperature is going to reach a high of 18 degrees Celsius this afternoon (woohoo!!)

2) it’s St. Patrick’s Day, so even though it’s not a holiday it still kind of feels like one, and….

Busy Weekend Ahead

We have a lot coming up this weekend Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, 2010. We will have our BIGGEST SALE EVER this weekend!

Starting on Fri. Nov. 5 with MOONLIGHT MADNESS, we’ll be until 10pm, and the sales will last until Saturday Nov. 6 at 3pm.

We can’t announce all the sales in advance, but if you’re looking to purchase some unique Christmas presents for the 0-3 year-olds on your shopping list, then you have to come to our store! And for those of you who don’t live in Windsor you can shop online.

We have an awesome selection of Melissa & Doug toys and our prices are better than anywhere else in town!

AND we’re hosting a BABYWEARING WORKSHOP on Saturday Nov. 6, starting at 11:00am. Always a good time, this is free and babies are always welcome. Whether you are pregnant or have a 2 year old, come out to learn how to easily wear your baby in a wrap or other style of carrier, and learn about all the amazing benefits for baby when you “wear” them. Our expert babywearere Diane from Mother’s Helper will have products for you to try on, and if you already own a sling or wrap bring it along. There will also be products for sale, and we *just might* have some of our name brand slings and wraps on sale this weekend too :)

Pillette Village

We’re getting new neighbours! I’m thrilled that a business moved in to the vacant shop next door, and they’re opening on Monday. There’s another empty store across the street that has recently been purchased and it’s being renovated and hopefully open for business soon too. It’s great to see stuff happening in the neighbourhood.

Next week is our first joint event since I opened my store in June. Everyone is going to be open until 10:00pm next Friday, it will be  Pillette Village midnight madness (what do you call it if you’re only open until 10?)

Two businesses will be celebrating their grand openings on Friday night, the art gallery across the street will be hosting a humane society fundraiser, and at Sweetheart Diapers & More we’ll be having lots of great pre-Christmas sales (I’ve been organizing it all week!) Let’s hope that lots of people come out to make it a fun event! Shop Til You Drop!

Peer Support Women’s Circle Oct. 27

Join us at Sweetheart Diapers for a free peer support womens circle – This month’s theme will be breastfeeding. For mothers with children 0-1yr and especially for mothers to be. This is a great opportunity to share ideas and stories, meet other mothers, build relationships and ask questions. An opportunity to ask anonymous questions is available. This event will be facilitated by Rhea Eady of The Family Doula Practice.
