WASHING AND CARING FOR YOUR DIAPERS
Before first use:Your cloth diapers will need to be washed |
|
Basic Washing Routine
- Remove diaper and store in a dry pail (no soaking)
- WASH: COLD pre-wash, HOT regular wash, and a COLD double rinse.
- DRY: Line dry or put in the dryer on low or medium heat. (please read product labels for dryer instructions)
USEFUL TIPS:
- Wet diapers:
Put directly into the diaper pail, no rinsing is necessary. - Soiled Diapers:
If your baby is exclusively breastfeeding, the dirty diaper can go directly into the diaper pail, no rinsing is necessary. (Breastfed poop is water-soluble, and it doesn't smell.)
If your baby is eating solids or is drinking formula, the poop must go down the toilet.
The soiled diaper can be rinsed in the toilet and the solid poop flushed down, then put the diaper into your diaper pail. - Diaper covers can be reused a number of times unless soiled. Rotate them by hanging and airing them out between changes.
- Storing dirty diapers:
Diaper Pail: All you really need to store your diapers is a container with a tight-fitting lid, such as a kitchen garbage bin that you can purchase at your local department store.
(We personally really like our garbage pail with foot pedal and pop-up style lid for an easy hands-free system.)
If you are using a container with a tight-fitting lid to store your diapers, you should not smell the diapers when the lid is closed.
However, you may choose to use a pail freshener to combat odors inside the pail.
Pail Freshener:
Does your diaper pail or wetbag smell like....a diaper pail?
Then freshen things up the Rockin' Green way
with this all-natural pail freshener.
Pail Liner: We highly recommend using a pail liner,
which is a waterproof, machine-washable bag.
Your pail liner makes laundry easy!
It keeps your diaper pail clean,
giving you one less thing to worry about,
and it is a lot easier to carry to the laundry room than a pail.
And you can wash it in the laundry along with your diapers!
- Use an appropriate laundry detergent.
You must choose a detergent that is free of bleach, fragrance, whiteners, and other additives.
These additives will leave residues on the diapers.
Residue build-up can cause your diapers to retain odours and repell liquid -
definitely not something you want happening with diapers!
We recommend Rockin Green Laundry Soap,
which has been specifically formulated for washing cloth diapers.
- Use a small amount of detergent to wash your diapers (¼ to ½ the recommended amount) or follow the directions on the back of the Rockin Green bag
- Never use fabric softeners or dryer sheets.
- Do not use bleach.
- Sun is a natural whitener and will naturally bleach and disinfect your diapers without chemicals. Outdoor line drying is a great way to get rid of stains!
- Waterproof covers should not be put in the dryer. They will air-dry relatively quickly since they don't absorb liquid.
- Always use a bio-soft liner when applying diaper creams. Diaper creams do not wash out well, which will leave a residue on the diaper that can cause it to hold in odors and cause stinky diapers.
| Bio-soft liners: Flushable, bio-degradable liners that make poopy clean-ups a breeze |
|
| Diaper Sprayer: Install onto your toilet to rinse clean even the poopiest messes |

| If you experience that your diapers are getting stinky even after they've been washed, use Funk Rock to de-funk your diapers! |
